Athlete Profile

The elite athletes at the club have been attending the extra sessions in which they hope to develop and keep improving; everyone is welcome to these sessions.  Though there may be a limit as 1 coach specialises in each area of development.

All the elite athletes were decided by the 6 Irvine AC coaches, they have been given a diary in which they keep a track of results, daily training, injuries /problems  etc, which is checked and signed off by Irvine AC coaches + given nutritional information etc.  Though there is no absolute elite athlete, these athletes have shown regular attendance, dedication & commitment in training and competed for the club regularly.  As well as having aspirations to become great athletes.

John McCafferty is the most talented young athlete at the club.  Currently possessing the British title for High Jump.  Nearly clearing the height to gain a new British all time record for his age group.  Ranked 5th in Britain for Discuss and finishing 3rd in the European Open Championships in Gothenburg for High Jump.  Amongst many many more great titles.

Considering he has only been in athletics for 2 years this is a phenomenal achievement by this talented individual.  John is has also won the young athlete of the year from the Daily Record in which the daily record readers voted for him.

His main events are High Jump, Pentathlon, and Octathlon soon.  Discuss, Javelin, Shot, Hurdles, long jump.  Showing he is a truly class athlete at all theses events and highly ranked in Britain.
