SUPER Medal Haul once again by the Irvine AC athletes
Irvine AC athletes were at Dam Park Ayr on Sunday 27th July for the Ayrshire Track and Field Championships. Irvine AC had a good turnout with some excellent performances.
This was shown by the medal count of 17 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. There were some very close finishes with U17 men Sean Thompson and Jamie McDonald both clocking 11.5 seconds for the 100m and the Judges awarding the gold medal to Sean, which must have been a tough choice. U13 boys Kian Douglas and Chris Jenks had a great tussle in the 1500m race with Chris, who was running his first major championship pushing Kian all the way, but just managed to hold him off with a strong 50m finish. Chris did however win gold in the long jump clearing 4.31m. U13 boy Lee McMahon also running for the first time in a championship won the 800m in a excellent time of 2.32mins. Senior Man Tony McKnight won the 5k race in 17.40mins. U13 girl Leanne Bingham won gold with a jump of 4.10m in the long jump. Irvine women are improving in the hurdles with U17 women Molly Bell winning gold, U13 girl Caitlin lee winning silver and Natalia Dalgoutte winning Bronze. Best Irvine women medal winner was Nicole Bunyan who comes from Brodick, Nicole won gold in the 200m and the 400m races.
This was another good performance from Irvine AC athletes and shows promise for those who are in contention to be selected for the Ayrshire Harriers team who are in the Scottish Final of the Young Athletes .

Young Athletes make Scottish Final once again!!
A congtratulations to all the athletes that took part in the Ayrshire team. With a few special mentions....
Firstly Natalie Dalgoutte competing for the 1st time in the Ayrshire team, had a few alternations to her events and was competing in the 75m Hurdles. an event which she has only had 1 day coaching a while back in. Natalie had a great attempt at hurdles, and showed her great attitude and character that will help her vastly improve.
Do to large puddles on the track Natalie had a small slip before the hurdle, however recovered well and finished the race with a smile. All the coaches had nothing but praise for Natalie who will look to improve each day as the season continues.
Jill Taylor was also competing for the 1st time in the 1200m. Jill has just moved up to U13 level. And had a hesitent start judged the pace well with a strong finishing lap. Jill is showing potential to be a good endurance runner after a good cross country season.
Jamie McDonald also held his nerve to take the relay team in 1st place. Jamie had 2 strong athletes on both sides but showed his class, cementing his name as a top quality sprinter. And will now focus his efforts to the Ayrshire championships next.
Sarah Munn, who was competing in the 1500m, and 15 mins later decided to do a 300m A-String to maximise points for the club.
Also Meghan Logue, who did the 100m, 200m, and did the 300m for me (team manager) too.
And also if it wasn't for the likes of regular athletes Molly Bell, Caitlin Lee and Stephanie Dalgoutte, Alex Reid etc that helped tally up so many valuable points with there great performances. Well Done Girls.
The attitude, heart, motivation and commitment of the Irvine AC athletes showed, with the flexability to cover a whole range of events, new to many individuals. Bill and Imran are very proud of all the IRVINE AC athletes. As well as the whole Ayrshire team

Ayrshire Storm!!
The Ayrshire Harriers athletics team STORMED to another victory which has capped off a superb season. Winning the Scottish Young Athletes league division 2 and winning promotion to Division 1, also gaining entry to the Scottish Finals at Grangemouth on 28th July. A huge achievement since this is only the 1st season together as Ayrshire Harriers!
The last meeting was held at Linwood, conditions were good as the rain held of with many sunny spells. The team was lacking strength as there were many athletes on holiday as tends to occur in the summer. The Ayrshire Harriers totalled a massive 784 points, beating the nearest opposition by over 350 points.
In the sprints the U13 Kendal Ross and Caitlin Gillon both a had great runs finishing 1st in10.07s and 11.30s respectively showing they are great athletes and more importantly shown consistency over the 3 league meetings. .
Molly Bell and Paige Douglas were competing in the 75m Hurdles, they have been showing great commitment in training for these events and were looking forward to competing for the Ayrshire Harriers team. Molly had a good run in a time of 15.10s, and will be looking to improve as the season progresses, Paige finished 1st in the B-String in a time of 14.10s a great result for Paige who normally prefers distance events.
In the field events for the girls Ciara Gracie jumped 4.80m in the long jump for the A-String and Ashley Easton jumping 3.95m, both girls finishing 2nd and gaining some good points for the team. Leanne Bingham was also competing in the Long jump and had a super jump gaining a new PB, jumping 4.02m finishing in 3rd place. John McCafferty - European Open Championships
John McCafferty was competing in the Open European championships in Gothenbourg, Sweden. He also competed last year in which he won a Bronze medal for the High Jump.
This year John was again competing in the High Jump and the Discuss, competition is tough with many class athletes competing from throughout Europe. John finished 4th in the High Jump clearing 1:89m but failed to clear 1.91m so was pipped off 3rd place. John also had a good run in teh Discuss finishing 14th with a throw of 39:08m just a metre below his PB.
This is a great result from John, baring in mind he is only 15 years old and was competing against much older athletes in the Under18 category. This was a good day out for John and a valuable experience as he moves forward. He is loving competing at this sort of competition where standard is higher than winning in Scotland with less pressure. So super effort from john and Well Done from all the club!!
